Scanning an Image

These instructions are for Photoshop. You may be able to save time by using an image search to find illustrations. You must still use Photoshop or another image editing program (such as Preview on the Mac) to resize the image. Our software will not allow uploads greater than 100 KB, and we ask that you use compression to keep your images as small as possible. We have found that images larger than 300 px make the book module pages look cluttered, unless you are only displaying one or two images.

Scanning the image

  1. Place book cover or inner illustration on scanner surface. Close scanner lid.
  2. Open Photoshop.
  3. Single-click File ⇨ Import ⇨ HP PrecisionScan Pro (or the specific scanner attached), located along the top menu, to open the Scanner box.
  4. Make sure that "Colored picture" is selected. Click on "Adjust the quality of the scanned picture," set the Resolutino (DPI) to 200. These are default settings, usually you do not need to make any changes.
  5. Click on "Preview" will give you a preview. If everything looks good, you can go ahead and click "Scan."

Adjusting the image

  1. Single-click Image ⇨ Image Rotation, located along the top menu, to adjust orientation of image if necessary.
  2. Click Image ⇨ Adjustments ⇨ Levels. A box will pop up. Click on "Auto" and then click "OK." This will make the color of your picture more vivid. We can recommend you do this for all your images.
  3. If needed, you can crop the image using the crop tool. It is this icon 20px?, located on the bar on the left. After you are done cropping, do not forget to click on the tick(✓) to save the change.
  4. Go to File ⇨ Save for Web & Devices. Change the file type from "GIF" to "JEPG" (second box on the right).
Change the image size to some number between 200 and 300, if you have not done so already. Click on "Save" on the bottom when you are ready and save your image somewhere on the disk. Note that you can also change the size this way: Image ⇨ Image Size, located along the top menu

Uploading the image

  1. From the new book module, click the "Attach" link
  2. Click "Choose File" and navigate to the file
  3. Click "Upload"

Inserting the image

Use the following markup: %rfloat% Attach:course.jpg if you want the image to align to the right, or %lfloat% Attach:course.jpg to have it on the left.
