  1. Place book cover or inner illustration on scanner surface. Close scanner lid.
  2. Open Photoshop.
  3. Single-click File ⇨ Import ⇨ HP PrecisionScan Pro (or the specific scanner attached), located along the top menu, to open the Scanner box.
  4. Make sure that "Colored picture" is selected. Click on "Adjust the quality of the scanned picture," set the Resolutino (DPI) to 200. These are default settings, usually you do not need to make any changes.
  5. Click on "Preview" will give you a preview. If everything looks good, you can go ahead and click "Scan."

[edit] Adjusting the image

  1. Single-click Image ⇨ Image Rotation, located along the top menu, to adjust orientation of image if necessary.
  2. Click Image ⇨ Adjustments ⇨ Levels. A box will pop up. Click on "Auto" and then click "OK." This will make the color of your picture more vivid. We can recommend you do this for all your images.
  3. If needed, you can crop the image using the crop tool. It is this icon Crop tool icon.gif, located on the bar on the left. After you are done cropping, do not forget to click on the tick(✓) to save the change.
  4. Go to File ⇨ Save for Web & Devices. Change the file type from "GIF" to "JEPG" (second box on the right). At the box right below, change it to "Maximum," for quality. Important:change the image size to some number between 200 and 300, if you have not done so already. Click on "Save" on the bottom when you are ready and save your image somewhere on the disk.
  • Note that you can also change the size this way: Image ⇨ Image Size, located along the top menu

[edit] Uploading the image

  1. Open any page of this wiki site and log in.
  2. On the navigation bar on left, under "Toolbox," click on the link "Upload file," or open this link on another tab.
  3. Click on "browse" and find the image you want to upload.
  4. Change the file name in the box "Destination filename." Important: name the file in the following convention:
    yourlastname.bookname.cover.jpg example: johnson.many_moons.cover.jpg
    yourlastname.bookname.image1.jpg example: johnson.many_moons.image1.jpg

[edit] Inserting the image

  1. Now open the destination page. Click "Edit" on the top. Add a tag to the paragraph where you want to place the image. The tag looks like:
    [[File:{filename}|{options}]]
    For example:
    [[File:johnson.many_moons.cover.jpg|right]]
  • Note that this site is case sensitive for file/page names, we recommend you use lowercase for all your file names. For any page or file name, space will be automatically replaced by underscore (_), but we recommend you just use underscore and avoid using space. After you have done this, the site will create a page for this file, its url is "http://www.teachingchildrenphilosophy/wiki/File:{filename}." You can delete or upload a newer version of the same file here if necessary.
